What if I send to the wrong address?

If a confirmed payment reaches a wrong destination, Bitcoin has no central help desk that can return it. A recipient who controls that destination may choose to send a refund.

What does that mean for you?

A wallet can reject some invalid address text. That is different from knowing that a valid address belongs to the person you meant to pay.

Recovery also depends on what went wrong. A service may have a support process for its own account, but no universal recovery rule covers every wrong address, asset or network.

Can you picture an example?

Imagine you paste an old address from an unrelated message. The wallet may accept its format while the destination belongs to someone else. A valid format is not proof of the intended recipient.

What should you remember?

Read the payment details before approval and confirm unexpected changes through a route you trust. Do not share private keys or recovery words with someone promising a guaranteed reversal. This guide does not claim that every mistaken transfer is recoverable.
